''The Dead come to visit'' Kantunilkin Folkloric Dance Group

The arrival of the souls of the dearly departed to savor and relish in the pleasures of earthly life entails cleaning up and tidying up besides creating altars and preparing food and drinks, all activities the whole family participates in. This production allows us to understand the traditions in Quintana Roo, where men and women, dressed in regional attire hold a great celebration to welcome the dead.
In the Day of the Dead celebration in Quintana Roo, food preparation is essential, that is why its Mayan name, ''Hanal Pixán'', means ''food for the souls''. Mucbipollo, a typical dish for the ocassion, is a kind of tamale filled with chicken, salsa, annato and other spices, cooked in a hole on the ground and covered with banana or henequen leaves. As far as food is concerned, the ''Hanal Pixán'' is a very tasty celebration.
