The ceremonial and the mournful come together in this dance by the Carrillo Puerto Township Ballet that evolves from the Mayapax rhythms to the music of mestizo Quintana Roo.
Mayapax is a kind of music from the Yucatan Peninsula played with a harmonica, a snare drum and bass drum, besides percussion idiophones like a turtle shell and bells. Mayapax can be heard in days of celebration and each song has a particular moment to be played, according to tradition.
