PRE-HISPANIC BALL GAME
''The game of life and death'' Directed by Andrés Campos

The jaws that lead to Xibalbá open up at the exact moment of confrontation, the contenders - divine twins Ixbalanqué and Junajpú - arrive to the Tachtli to descend into the world of the dead and, with the rhythmic precision of their movements, they tell us a fragment of a story from the Mayan sacred book: the Popol Vuh.
The divine twins Ixbalanqué and Junajpú are ready to defend the balance of the universe and they will face the lords of darkness, lords of Xibalbá and lords of death, with courage, skill and dexterity. Thus begins the struggle between day and night, light and darkness. This is the beginning of the game of life and death.
This is a performance created by the Music and Traditional Games department at Xcaret park with the participation of ball game players, dancers, actors and musicians who come together to achieve a noteworthy representation of the Popol Vuh myth, the genesis of the corn man.
