Children raise their voices for young and all souls
Xcaret Child Singers and Drummers
In this edition of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions dedicated to young souls - The Child Death - this choir and drummer group will perform and accompany the mass dedicated to the young souls on October 31st and the All Saints Day mass on November 1st.
The children's voices and the drum beats come together as an offering of sound and rhythm with a special repertoire they will play for the first time with vocal director Erick González and Drum director Andrés Campos.
The Xcaret Child Singers is a children's choir created in 2001 at the same time as the ''Xcaret México Espectacular'' night performance emerged.
Generally a Mexican music repertoire has been the rule in their more outstanding performances such as the Cervantino International Festival, functions fostered by the Mexican government like the COP16 event, French week at Xcaret and the masses for the Festival of Life and Death Traditions 2010, accompanied by the Nandayapa Marimba, having the honor of participating with Don Zeferino Nandayapa.
The Xcaret drummers group was created in 1997 as part of the Park´s performers.
The drummers began by performing traditional music from the state of Tabasco played by a Maya Chontal flute and several drums of different sizes made out of hollow tree trunks and sheep skin or pig skin.
Shortly, the group became an audience favorite as they got to hear and enjoy one of the largest drummer groups in Mexico with approximately 40 members.
This group soon became a school that made it possible for young people in the region to learn the bars, beats and basic aspects of this indigenous music. To date, around 200 people have participated in the group at one time or another and some have created their own musical groups once they leave the Park.
